Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator: A comprehensive, searchable directory of alcohol and drug treatment programs nationwide from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration.


Buprenorphine Physician Locator, (866) 287-2728: An online resource designed to assist the states, medical and addiction treatment communities, potential patients and their families locate physicians who can prescribe Buprenorphine (Suboxone® and Subutex®) for treatment of opioid addiction.


National Helpline, 1 Choke Cherry Road, Room 8-1036, Rockville, MD 20857, (800) 273-8255; (240) 276-2000: A list of programs offering confidential information on alcohol and drug use disorder treatment and referral.


National Committee for Quality Assurance, 2000 L St., NW, Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20036; (202) 955-3500: The accrediting agency for most managed care companies offers online report cards on health plans that lets you compare hundreds of health plans, Medicare and Medicaid, for the best treatment coverage.

Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, 7400 Merton Minter Blvd., San Antonio, Texas, (210) 617-5300: Offers veterans comprehensive treatment for a variety of addictions, from alcohol to drugs, through detoxification and recovery programs, including vocational and housing assistance as people reenter society.


Caron Foundation, 17 Camp Road, Wernersville, PA, (800) 678-2332: Through its treatment facilities in Pennsylvania, New York and Florida, helps people with chemical addictions of every type and offers medical detoxification, gender-separate primary rehabilitation, relapse treatment and extended car for adults and adolescents; outpatient care; and educational programs for family members.


The Cleveland Clinic, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio, 44195, (800) 223-2273, ext. 44836: Named one of the nation’s best four hospitals in 2005 by U.S. News & World Report, the Cleveland Clinic provides a range of services to adults and adolescents addicted to alcohol or drugs.


Ensuring Solutions, George Washington University, 2021 K Street NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20006, (202) 296-6922: A research institute that works with business leaders and private citizens to close the gap between coverage for addiction treatment and treatment for other diseases. Publishes a variety of publicly available resources on trends in addiction treatment and showcases successful efforts to increase access to alcohol treatment.


The McShin Foundation, 1300 Mactavish Ave., Richmond, VA, 23230; (804) 249-1845: In partnership with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., this non-profit, grass-roots community resource organization provides clinical inpatient and outpatient treatment services, including detox and crisis stabilization.


Phoenix House, 164 West 74th St., New York, NY, 10023; (646) 505-2000: The nation’s largest nonprofit provider of substance abuse treatment and prevention services operates more than 100 programs in nine states; with more than 6,000 at residential centers for adults, Phoenix Academies combine long-term treatment and schooling for adolescents, outpatient, after school and day programs. 


National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, PO Box 1927, Vancouver, WA, 98668-1927, (360) 245-0186: Conducts education and training on acupuncture used as part of comprehensive addiction treatment to relieve suffering during detoxification and prevent relapse.
